Caring for Your Barrel Stave Shot

STĀV logo“This is a craft object meant to live with you.”

Every STĀV vessel is crafted from real cooperage-grade American oak. Like a barrel, continued performance depends on proper care, conditioning, and storage over time.

Wood is a living material. Grain movement, seasoning, and surface character naturally evolve through use — part of the ritual carried by authentic cooperage craft.

Daily Use

The STĀV Barrel Stave Shot is designed for regular enjoyment and gradual seasoning through repeated pours.

After use:

  • Rinse with warm water only
  • Avoid soap, detergents, or chemical cleaners
  • Wipe exterior dry immediately with a microfiber cloth
  • Allow the vessel to fully air dry between uses
  • Never soak the vessel in water
  • Do not place in dishwashers, microwaves, or freezers

During the early break-in period, flavor influence may be more expressive before softening naturally over time.

The interior char layer is intentional and should naturally fade through use.

Conditioning the Wood

Every STĀV shot is pre-conditioned with natural mineral oil and beeswax, then sealed with a premium blend of carnauba wax and beeswax.

Each STĀV Care Kit includes:

  • Fine sandpaper
  • Microfiber cloth
  • Wax conditioner
  • Wooden application paddle

To condition the exterior:

  1. Use the included fine sandpaper to refresh the exterior surface
  2. Apply a small amount of wax conditioner to the exterior using the wooden paddle
  3. Work the conditioner into the exterior wood surface using the microfiber cloth
  4. Allow the wax to absorb before buffing dry

Condition only the exterior surfaces.

Do not apply wax conditioner to the interior of the vessel.

Storage

Store the vessel in a cool, dry environment away from prolonged moisture or direct heat exposure.

Avoid:

  • Standing water
  • Sealed damp environments
  • Extended direct sunlight
  • Rapid temperature changes

Proper storage allows the oak to remain stable while continuing to develop character through age and use.
